Anima garden: a quaint paradise blending art and botany

Jardin Anima Marrakech

This famed garden in Marrakesh is listed among "150 gardens you must visit before you die" according to American writer Stefanie Waldek. It's a perfect opportunity to rediscover this whimsical, lush spot situated 28 kilometers from the city center, on the Ourika road. Photo: Le Jardin Anima

From a barren land to a lush garden

Created by the renowned Austrian artist André Heller and opened in 2016, this verdant enclave of over two hectares has become a must-visit during any trip to the ochre city. Jaust a decade ago, it was merely a barren plot. However, the Austrian artist, passionate about botany, already envisioned transforming it into a quirky and exuberant garden-museum.

A true garden of Eden

In this rediscovered paradise facing the Atlas mountains, one encounters over two hundred varieties of trees, plants, and cacti. And to enhance the experience, there are no prescribed paths; everyone is free to wander as they wish. André Heller aims to awaken all our senses through this journey.

We are soothed by the murmur of the water fountains, enjoy the sweet fragrance of blooming orange trees, and are tempted by the deliciously prepared foods from the garden, offered at the restaurant. Additionally, it's fun to seek out the vibrant art pieces dotted throughout the garden. You can admire works by André Heller, American artist Keith Haring, Polish sculptor Igor Mitoraj, and even dishes designed by Picasso! It's a colorful path and a place for contemplation that appeals to both parents and children alike.

A place for encounters and exhibitions

Le Jardin Anima, a living museum that constantly evolves, also houses two exhibition halls. One is dedicated to the mystic painter Hanz-Werner, and the other honors Moroccan artists, changing its programming every three months, thereby offering encounters with the highlighted artists.
