In collaboration with the Montresso association, the Reunion-based graffiti artist Jace has filled the old city with his endearing little characters: the Gouzous. It's worth noting that these vibrant characters have already made stops and graced the walls in about twenty countries like China and Brazil.
After drawing inspiration from the local sites and legends told by residents, the graffiti artist wandered the mazes of shops and workshops in the medina before creating about fifteen mural paintings ranging from the Mellah, the old Jewish quarter, to the Sidi Youb square. It's a real invitation to stroll through the old city and discover all its hidden nooks and crannies.
The Gouzous, bearers of love and poetry, always settle in a particular context and blend into the environment in a clever way! Jace intended to convey a message that is both poetic and protestive. Take for example, the family of Gouzous located behind the Bahia Palace on a house aiding battered women. The drawing depicts a volunteer reaching out to a single mother and her children.
A real treasure hunt awaits you, so, will you find them all?!
