Laure Saourra: The Art of Female DJing!

Made in Marrakech: How did you come to Marrakech?

Laure Saourra: I was a G.O. at Club Med in Agadir and regularly came to Marrakech, a city I quickly fell in love with. Some friends also had a business here, and I played at their opening in 2009. Then I DJed at the Palais Jad Mahal, before stopping music to become a bar manager in several establishments. After a few years, I played at Theatro, during the "Made in Marrakech" young talent competition, then everything happened very quickly, so I resumed my DJ career.

MIM: What do you like about Marrakech?

L.S: First, I'd say the sun (laughs). I'm originally from Paris, a real stress-filled city, so I quickly connected with the atmosphere of Marrakech. And it's also a party city, so it meets important criteria for me.

MIM: Tell us about your musical style?

L.S: When I was younger, I listened to all possible musical styles, and the shift to deep house happened naturally. My music is inspired by my moods, sometimes I add disco or funky influences, I also have remixes of U2 or Depeche Mode. With age, I've mellowed in my music, I like to mix sounds with more vocals and fewer effects. By attending festivals, I've also developed a feeling for underground and its melancholic melodies.

MIM: In which establishments have you DJed?

L.S.: I've DJed at Bô&Zin, Living Room, Kechmara, Murano, Bab Hotel, Level Five, The Source, etc., but also in venues in Casablanca. Recently, I participated in Moroko Loko, organized at Jardin d'Ines. Every Tuesday, I'm also at L'Epicurien, with Pandi Pandi and Costa, for an evening dedicated to Deep.

MIM: The ideal party for you?

L.S.: All my friends gathered in a magnificent villa, with a pool, a "Family Time" as I call it. Everyone DJs as they want, we mix our universes, that's what I prefer.
