Moroccan artists living abroad

As part of "Marrakech Art Fair" in partnership with the Council of the Moroccan Community Abroad, an exhibition brings together fifteen expatriate Moroccan artists at the Marrakech Museum.

Marked as a premiere in Marrakech and Morocco under the name of "Resonances: Moroccan artists of the world", this exhibition (from October 7 to December 7, 2010) offers the public and art enthusiasts a chance to admire artworks from Moroccan artists around the world coming from six different countries. The curator of the exhibition, Mr. Brahim Alaoui, an art historian and cultural engineer, has gathered these artists with the aim of giving them the opportunity to exhibit their recent work in their home country and share their journey as contemporary artists.

The exhibition will feature painters, photographers, sculptors... Among them, Aziza Alaoui, a painter born in Casablanca to a Moroccan father and a German mother who currently lives and works in Mexico. Her canvases include portraits and landscapes. Hicham Benohoud, originally from Marrakech, who worked as a plastic arts teacher for thirteen years in a Moroccan school, left the country in search of a new experience and turned to photography. Another local, Lalla Essaydi, born in Tamslouht a stone's throw from Marrakech, lives and works in New York. Also a photographer, she draws inspiration from her journey (Lalla moved through Paris and Saudi Arabia before settling in the United States) to create her works. Lastly, the work of Abderrahim Yamou is also notable. A sculptor, he draws his inspiration from the theme of the garden.

A beautiful exhibition at the Marrakech Museum, in partnership with Marrakech Art Fair, which allows us to pay tribute to these talented artists who come from here and of whom we are proud.
