The Thursday souk

Souk Marrakech

Everyone knows just how enchanting the charm of Marrakech's souks can be. A thousand fragrances mix at the twists and turns of the alleyways, scents of spices or the wafts from the tanneries. Made in Marrakech invites you to visit the most authentic souk in the city, the Bab el Khemis souk.

You'll find everything here! From teaspoons to skis, through TVs and wrought iron windows, this place is a huge flea market where everyone can bring anything they think holds even a modicum of value.

At the break of dawn, every Thursday in Marrakech, an entire district comes to life. The first regulars hurry to lay out their goods, tea sets, clothes and more, taking up the most space. However, if you dig a little deeper, you'll realize that Bab el Khemis is a massive bazaar where everything has a price. Some say you can find everything, while others may disagree. It's a place open to all, and unique to each.

If you're particular about your manners, impeccable in terms of hygiene, or just came from a manicure, you might want to do your shopping at a supermarket instead. On the other hand, if you're a fan of all kinds of bric-a-brac, nonsensical trinkets, or if you're looking for something you're sure to never find elsewhere, this place is for you.

One thing is certain, you'll need to walk for a while before you smell the spices again, but it will only take a few steps to discover a thousand and one unusual items that will surely pique your curiosity.
